Cranberry Township



Cranberry Township, a small community incorporated in 1804, whose name is derived from the abundance of wild cranberries that used to grow here, is now a fast-growing neighborhood that has more than doubled its population from 1990 to today.  As of 2015, it's estimated approximately 30,548 people call themselves a resident of Cranberry Township.  This growth is mainly due to its low taxes, high-rated schools, and the fact it's situated between two major interstate highways, Interstate 79 and the Pennsylvania Turnpike, making a commute to the city of Pittsburgh less than 30-minutes.


The economy in Cranberry continues to see steady growth because of its emerging center for technology, customer service, and engineering.  Already deemed a regional retain center, it considers its core local economy to be corporate, industrial, and research organizations.  It's home to major operations for McKesson, Kawneer, Alcoa, Mine Safety Appliance, and Westinghouse.   Today, more people commute to jobs in Cranberry than the other way around.  The economy also plays a key part in the healthy real estate market.  The average sold price of homes for 2016 was $348,000, marking it as one of the more affluent areas to live.  If you're selling a home here, there's a strong average list to sold price of 98%.


Another major reason for the commute to Cranberry, is the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex, the practice arena for the 2016 Stanley Cup Champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins.  This facility was also the location for the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and is open to the public for ice skating, hockey tournaments, and events.


If you're not a fan of the ice, Cranberry also offers approximately 92 restaurants, a water park, a skate park, Dick's Sporting Good's Sportplex , walking trails, and much more.  Also, if you're into local history, you can visit the Sample Schoolhouse, take a walk on George Washington's Train, and drive a quick 15 minutes to historic Harmony, PA.
